The Chisomo Street Kids Project works with the poorest and most vulnerable in Lusaka, Zambia. The project provides intervention for kids on the street, running a Drop-In Centre and facilitating prevention work with women and their families in some of the poorer areas of the city.
The Zambia CRED Team Trip is an opportunity to travel to Lusaka in Zambia and spend time working with Chisomo Street Kids Project at the Residential Centre and Drop-In. A key part of the trip will be delivering a five-day activity week providing fun, creative and educational lessons and activities.
The mission of Chisomo is to support the street children of Zambia, children who are forgotten or ignored, victims of the global HIV/AIDS crisis or just of systemic and crushing poverty. Chisomo offers a safe haven for them where they can receive shelter, food, clothing, education and counselling. Through its programme of tracing and reuniting, Chisomo works to reintegrate street children into their home communities and families. We will be contributing to the goals of the project, by designing and delivering an activity week for the children. The week itself is of significant benefit to those involved, informed as it is by child development theory, good teaching practice, and a spirit of fun and play. Local staff appreciate the input and new ideas, as well as the resources that are left behind, and any extra funds raised are given straight to the host project.
