The Chisomo Street Kids Project works with the poorest and most vulnerable in Lusaka, Zambia. On the one hand they have a Prevention strategy, investing in women-headed households in targeted areas of the city, facilitating micro-enterprise, and providing health, nutrition and parenting inputs. On the other hand, they have a progressive intervention strategy, a Residential Centre, and ultimately family re-integration if at all possible.
The Zambia CRED Team Trip is an opportunity to travel to Lusaka in Zambia and spend time working with Chisomo Street Kids Project at the Residential Centre and Drop-In. A key part of the trip will be delivering a five-day activity week providing fun, creative and educational lessons and activities.
Chisomo gives children and young people trapped on the street an exit route from a very dangerous life, and also provides them with opportunities for education and employment. We will be contributing to the goals of the project, and therefore to the goals of the street kids themselves. The week itself is of significant benefit to those involved, informed as it is by child development theory, good teaching practice, and a spirit of fun and play. Local staff appreciate the input and new ideas, as well as the resources that are left behind, and any fundraising is given straight to the host project.
February and October half term or June/July time.
