Butterfly Space is a non-profit, volunteer community project serving the people of Nkhata Bay on the shores of Lake Malawi. It uses its income-generating eco-lodges to fund the fifteen sub-projects that run year round, including a nursery school, sustainable gardens, disabled-access youth group, an internet centre, and links to local primary schools.
The Malawi CRED Team Trip is an opportunity to travel to Nkhata Bay in Malawi and spend a week delivering 5 days of high-quality educational activities, fun and games to children at one of the primary schools. Facilitated by Butterfly Space, a partner of CRED Foundation, the children we will be working with live in chronic rural poverty, and this week will be the closest they come to a holiday.
As the 8th poorest country in the world, Malawians are faced with many hardships and unimaginable life-decisions. Families in Nkhata Bay are often unable to support their children’s education and well-being.
By getting involved in one of the local primary schools that many of the poorer families go to, we will be providing not just a week of lessons and activities, but also much-needed resources, and the knowledge that these people are not forgotten.
February half term, early July or October Half Term. This includes travel via Lilongwe airport in Malawi.
WHO’S IN CHARGE?
The trip will be led by CRED Foundation staff, comprising a venture leader and a co-leader, each of whom have considerable experience in leading teams and international trips. CRED Foundation is a member of the Expedition Providers Association, and is working towards BS8848 for Overseas Trips.
